The comedian and writer, was surprised by Eamonn Andrews at Thames Television’s Teddington Studios.
Les was the son of a struggling Manchester bricklayer and left school at the age of 14. After drifting through a series of jobs, he moved to Paris to try his hand at writing; instead, he got into show business – playing piano in a brothel.
After honing his comedy act in various pubs and clubs in the north of England, he made his television debut on the ITV talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1967, and went on to star in his own television series Sez Les.

Les was honoured by This Is Your Life a second time in 1992.
